Under the direction of the Design Team Lead, this role involves
executing a variety of product design tasks, ranging from the
development of entirely new products to enhancements, improvements,
and cost-reduction initiatives for existing products.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and generate innovative design concepts, detailed designs,
and design validation procedures.
Conduct thorough design analyses, focusing on function, tolerances,
stress, safety, and performance.
Perform calculations and empirical testing to ensure product
success in real-world applications.
Engage in customer feedback (Voice of the Customer) activities and
prioritize customer needs when designing products.
Collaborate with management, production, and marketing teams to
review project specifications and methodologies.
Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly
(DFA) initiatives with vendors, manufacturing engineering, and
operations teams to optimize product value.
Gain a strong understanding of in-house and vendor processes,
incorporating design specifications accordingly.
Communicate design details, timelines, and expectations to
stakeholders clearly and effectively.
Oversee and delegate tasks to junior engineers, designers, and
drafters, providing mentorship and guidance as needed.
Promote a culture of transparency, data-driven decision-making,
accountability, and continuous improvement.
Actively contribute to lean manufacturing efforts, identifying
waste and driving initiatives to reduce it.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical component and
assembly design and development.
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable combination of
education and experience.
Background in Firearms Design is highly desirable.
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and technologies such
as forging, casting, machining, stamping, heat treatment,
protective finishes, and molding.
Extensive experience with SolidWorks software.
Expertise in mechanical drafting standards, GD&T, and tolerance
analysis.
Proficiency in stress and kinematic analysis, both through
traditional methods and using FEA and motion analysis software.
Working Conditions:
Office-based within a manufacturing facility.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, move, and transport items weighing at least 20
lbs.
Prolonged use of office equipment (computer, calculator, copier,
printer) for up to 6 hours per day.
Capability to remain stationary for up to 2 hours at a time.
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to detect and correct
errors in designs or documentation.
Excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills for
interaction with colleagues and other departments.
Mobility throughout the facility and office areas, accessing
necessary resources and equipment.
Willingness to travel when required.
Additional Information:
Management reserves the right to assign or reassign duties as
needed.

Experience or willingness to learn Lean Manufacturing practices is
a plus.
